Okay. I will be the first to admit that I have always said I don't like sushi. I still can say it is not one of my favorite foods, but I don't totally hate it like I thought I did. I have now tried three different types of sushi rolls. I know that is not a lot and not enough to give sushi a judgment call of gross. While looking at all the million choices and types and combo's of sushi tonight I realized three is not enough to know if I like it or not. It's not one of those things that I think I would ever crave or HAVE to have (unless maybe if I was pregnant). That's not gonna happen and even if it did, I have heard you can't have sushi whilst pregnant so that would be a moot point. All this to say, my hubby loves sushi and he rarely gets to go since I have always turned my nose up at it. I went tonight because I am an excellent, supportive wife. He loved every bite. I got every bite down. It was a win win.
At least I had some super awesome hair for our date night. That made it all worth while:)
Thanks to my cousin, Kasey, for the uber cool braid and for watching our two monkeys. Three hours of freedom was just what the doctor ordered!
While we were in Florida Owen turned 3! Hard to believe that my "baby" is really no longer a baby. I remember all his birthday's so well. This year I hope he remembers it too since he got to spend his special day at the beach.
His first year we spent at my mom and dad's house. Daddy was gone on a fishing trip to Canada, so I didn't want to throw some big, huge party I knew he would never remember anyways! He loved his treat and ate it all up (and he tried the candle too). Look at my little baby with no hair:)
Birthday number 2 was spent here at our house. This was an awesome party. We rented Safari Joe for a few hours and he came to the house and had an indoor (his birthday is in July in Oklahoma!) party full of crazy big and small animals. It was a hit with parents and kids alike.
I wasn't too fond of this snake super close to my 2 year old but Daddy and Safari Joe said he was safe so I snapped the shot before Owen broke down.
Birthday number 3 was on the beach. He had breakfast in the hotel, lunch on the beach, and dinner at Osaka. He sang to himself, we sang to him, he talked about his birthday all day. He was excited. Once we made the long drive home a few days later we went over to my parents to celebrate just a little get together. His cousins were there and all were just as happy as he was to indulge in his Spiderman cupcakes. My big man is all about Spiderman this 3rd year. Can't get enough of him. He loves him!
It was great to get to celebrate with brother, Ava, and Emma. Happy birthday Owen Michael Kueny. You will always be my "baby" even though you are taller than Emma, almost as tall as Will, and will probably be as tall as me in 10 years.
You finally made it! Day 4 of my final blog post about Florida. I'm telling you, you still are only seeing about 1/2 of the pictures I actually took. I'm sparing you, believe me. On the next to the last night there we had Kasey take some good family pictures of us by the ocean. I had wanted to do this the entire week we were there. Rain rain go away, come again another day. This was going through my head the whole day on Friday. I know Saturday night was our last night there and it would be filled with beach playing and packing and showering before hitting the road. Luckily, there were a few sprinkles and not heavy downpours and we were able to get some awesome family pictures taken. Yay Kasey! The biggest hindrance for me and these shots was the wind. Man, was it blowing. Doesn't really matter for the other three in my life, but it does for this Momma who spent too long on her hair that night to only have it blow around like a crazy mop on my head and fly into Steven's eyes the whole night! Oh well, what's done is done right? I think we got some good ones.
Now for all of you that are lucky enough (haha) just be looking for a few of these again come early December. I am thinking Christmas card worthy. Everyone wants to remember summer temperatures and the beach when it is freezing and snowing outside, right? Oh, that's only me? Too bad. They are going on our Christmas cards. Merry Christmas in July!
I love these because they really show Owen's
personality. That's not hard to do with him, but it really shines
here. With me he is all laughs, the life of the party, just fun. With
Daddy he is snuggle buddy, loving, attached to him like glue. So
sweet.
Thank you all for reading through all of our vacation time in Florida. I miss it and wish we could afford to go every few weeks. That would be more than awesome. I am so thankful for my family and so very pleased with all the memories and things the boys got to experience for the first time while in Florida. Thank you Jesus for providing this opportunity for us. We are more than thankful!
Okay readers, you are now reading the 3rd of 4 blogs about our vacation. If you are bored, stop reading. I still have one more blog on Florida that I will post tomorrow. Sorry!
Another fun activity we did was a dolphin cruise tour. It was good, but not totally what I expected. They advertised a "glass bottom boat." When a company says that I was thinking the entire bottom deck was going to be glass. Nope, just about 3 little windows every one at the same time was cramming and pushing to see through. No thank you. It was on the very bottom of the boat, no air, dark, and it was going so fast to look through the windows into the water was making me sick. The boys didn't seem to care either. They just wanted to stand outside with Daddy and feed the seagulls popcorn. Will and Steven fed the seagulls. Owen ate the popcorn. I am sure you already guessed that:)
While on the dolphin cruise they allowed every child who wanted to to come "drive" the boat. Will loved this and smirked his way through the entire 1 1/2 minutes the real captain spent with him. Owen wouldn't even go in the door to try and sit in the chair. He clung to Daddy like the captain was a real pirate or something.
Also, while on the cruise I saw a man sitting in front of me that looked so much like my Papaw (my dad's dad) that it freaked me out. I brought it to Steven and Kasey's attention and they completely saw it too. Military hat, sunglasses, hearing aids, long socks, new balance shoes, skinny little legs. I wish I had a picture to show you of my real Papaw because this guy was such a dead ringer that it was spooky. And no, I don't think he even knew/heard me snap a picture of him:)
Baytowne wharf is another great place to go visit while you are in Destin. You could go anytime of the day, but I would suggest the evening time because the place is just gorgeous at night and the temperatures are not nearly as suffering! This is the place that sucks you in with the fun things for both parents and kids alike. $4 a minute for a 3 minute trampoline jump for Will, $8 for 8 putts at a chance to win a free zipline for Steven, $5 ice cream cones...the list could go on and on. It was beautiful and REALLY close to our hotel (like walking close) which not much was, so we liked that a lot.
Kasey did us all an amazing favor one night by watching little baby Eva. The four other kids went to an indoor camping/fun activity put on by Andrea's staff at their hotel. We adults went for a little double date together to spend some time "alone" or as alone as this family vacation would allow. It is so great to get to spend time with Andrea and Jeff even if it is just for 3 or 4 hours at a time. We went to an awesome seafood restaurant called Harbor Docks. I do recommend this place as well if you are in the Destin area. Let me tell you, I don't like crab or crabcakes or any type of sushi NORMALLY. It was forced upon me to try some real sushi fresh out of the ocean that day. Yummy. I really liked it. I couldn't tell you what was in it, and I probably don't want to know, but I still enjoyed it none the less. And the company...you can't beat best friends and my hubby all in one night! Thank you Kasey!!!!
There were about 500 (not literally) pictures that I took of the beach, us at the beach, the boys, just us, the water, the sand, my feet in the sand, etc. I am only going to show about 10 on this blog so be thankful:)
Several days were spent at the beach. In fact, I think we went every day at least for some time of the day. We missed out on 2 full days because of rain. I hate that about Florida that it does rain every day at some point. I was expecting rain every day but 2 days it rained the WHOLE day. Bummer. Oh well, we got some good outlet shopping in on those days and the other day Steven took the boys back to the hotel where everyone took almost a 3 hour nap. Much needed I guess!
This is a picture of our private beach by our hotel. Super nice! I say "private" but there were still easily 500 people there on any given day:)
This is a picture of Will stepping into the ocean for the very first time. There was a storm that had just blown through which brought seaweed every time to the beach when that would happen. We had to explain to both boys what it was, that it wouldn't hurt them, and to just sit and play around it. Those are not conversations that occur every day in land locked Oklahoma!
The boys had an awesome time seeing and touching and feeling the sand and waves for the first time in their lives. In fact on Tuesday morning when we walked up to the beach for the first time, Owen said, "Ohhh, it's sooo pweetttyy." Yes, son it is. So pretty. I could live here. I could take the boys to the beach every day instead of the pool. No problem whatsoever.
So everyone that reads this blog knows that I had a goal for myself to get into a bikini by the time we went to Florida. I worked hard at a diet and exercise. I ran A LOT. I worked out with Insanity A LOT. I am not totally "there" yet with feeling 100% comfortable in a two piece but I worked hard enough to feel as if I earned some courage to try on this vacation. You will notice a few snapshots of me during these blogs in said two piece. I didn't want to go crazy with pictures again, but there are a few. For some that don't want to look...I don't blame you. Just look at the pretty sand and water instead.
I will try and not bore you with a million pictures and stories of Florida. Oh wait, yes I will. I don't think you'll be bored though. We had some pretty fun and interesting days last week and got some amazing pictures. Just look at that water! I wish I could jump in right now again. The weather was perfect (minus the 2 days it rained on us). One day was the Pirate Cruise. This blog is mostly gonna be about that day and a few ocean shots. I don't want to throw everything in on you in one blog.
Will LOVED the pirate boat tour. Owen liked it too but not to the extent Will did. Will loved all the stories of treasure, the face painting, the water gun fights, and swabbing and cleaning the deck after the water gun fight. Owen got into swabbing the deck as well.
The pirate staff did a great job keeping the kids (both boys and girls) entertained for 2 hours. It was hot as Hades, but the kids didn't seem to mind it.
That night we went to dinner at a local favorite, Pampano
Joe's. This place sits literally on the beach. Beautiful. My only
complaint about that place was even though we got to sit outside it was
on the side of the road and not the ocean. Bummer. I guess we would
have had to get there at 2pm to secure a table like that for dinner
time.
After dinner we decided to go look for crabs or "tabs" as Owen called them all week. We had heard from people who had visited Destin before to bring some flashlights so you could look for crabs when the sun went down. Even though none of the boys found "tabs" they enjoyed looking for them. Will and Owen were both very good at pretending they found crabs, what the crabs were doing, how they got there, where they were going next....They both told little crab stories as we walked along the shore. Memories! Then the flashlight throwing began (by Owen of course) and we had to leave before he snagged someone in the head with his flying flashlight.
More stories and pictures to come, but just check out this water! Fantastic!
Today we are finally off to Florida for a little white sand, blue water, and to meet some dolphins. The boys are beyond excited. We all are, really. Once the drive is over and we are there, I will be a MUCH happier person! Here are a few random pictures of the things we will be doing and seeing in FL.
I will try to blog while I am there. I am taking my computer to attempt just that, but not sure if it will happen. Just in case it doesn't, here are a few of our activities this week!
1. Meet dolphins on a glass bottom dolphin cruise boat. I really hope the dolphins appear, otherwise it's gonna be just a really hot trip on a boat in the ocean!
2. Go on a Pirate Boat Cruise. I think the boys will like this but I am not totally sure. They are not huge into pirates but not scared either, so I am guessing this could go either way. I have heard from everyone that this is a MUST DO in Destin, so I hope it turns out well for this family!
3. Shopping. Yes, I must do this at all the many wonderful outlet malls and stores they have in Destin. Truth be told, Steven needs two things too. Sunglasses and cologne. Hopefully we can find both and not break the bank!
4. Eating. I have also heard there are two restaurants that are awesome to do with the little ones. Pampano Joe's right on the beach (how fun does that place look?) and Fudpucker's. I guess at Fudpucker's you can see/feed baby alligators also. My boys (all three) will love that! I have heard you can buy a shirt there that says, "You ain't been pucked, till you been fud pucked." That's a must buy:)
Hope everyone has a great week. Talk to you all soon!
