A Bragging Post

If you don't feel like reading a blog post about a mom bragging on her kids then you better leave now:)  This blog is dedicated to Will and Owen.

First Will:

This child is beyond caring and loving and giving.  He has so many attributes that serve him well now but will serve him even greater as an adult, dad, and husband (that's hard to think on).  He's a giver (like his daddy), he's a lover (like his momma), and he's organized, driven, loyal, competitive, and focused.  He gives daily to his brother.  He never quits something until it is done.  He never quits, period.  I love that about him.  He works on something even when it's hard and rarely complains (he's not perfect ya'll).  He loves numbers, he loves board games.  He soaks in football knowledge, stats, and plays as if his life depended on it.  He can master most anything spacial and numerical with ease.  He doesn't like to read.  Reading is tough for him.  He knows it, we all know it.  BUT...he works hard at it, always does his daily amount of time reading books (even ones he doesn't really have any interest in).  He doesn't fold. He will read and try to get better until the job is done.  I love this boy. I love his heart.  I love his personality and his big brown eyes.  I love my first born who made me a Momma.

Now Owen:

Oh, my O man...what can I say?  This child keeps us, anyone around him, his teachers, his friends...this child keeps us on our toes.  He teaches me patience like none other.  He teaches me to not take everything so seriously all the time (even though I still don't think farts are funny EVERY SINGLE TIME).  He is funny like not many children I know.  He makes us laugh daily.  He loves his brother fiercely, even though his brother can also make him the most mad of anyone.  He loves to drink coffee, eat sushi, and dress in costumes.  His favorite combo would be to do all three of those at the same time.  He loves to play outside.  12 degrees or 112 degrees...he cares not.  He loves to swim, to play in the snow, to jump in leaves, and to hop in water puddles.  This boy loves to camp, to be dirty, and to love on any and all animals that walk in his path.  Truth be told, he loves all animals more than most people.  He is all boy, all the time, 110% of the time.  He is loud.  To the extreme.  He is physically strong, but emotionally not brave.  He is still scared by the normal things a 6 year old would be scared of.  He has no desire to play sports (to Steven's dismay).  Learning doesn't come as naturally to this one as big brother so I've learned to celebrate the little steps along the way with him.  It's harder because the desire isn't there.  Maybe that will come with maturity, maybe it never will?  Time will tell!

All I know is that I am one blessed woman to have these two boys in my life.  They make it worth it to get up every morning.  They make life worth living.  I am so thankful God gave them to us to have until we all go home again to Him.

My Take on the Globes

I enjoy watching awards shows.  I really like it, although most times, I've never seen the movies or TV shows these actors are up for nomination for.  I still like watching them to see who wins, who doesn't, what I should make plans to see, and what I should skip.

So, without further ado, I will give you my recap on the Golden Globes this year.  Read this, and you won't even have to watch the show:)

1.  Katy Perry doesn't need a Golden Globe.  She already has two.

2.  I thought Jonah Hill was slim and fit now?  Something happened since the last time he was on an awards show.

3.  Brad Pitt is back to gorgeous again.  He circles around it all the time but with the scruff, long hair, weird clothing choices, and stranger hair styles he's been really making me sad over the last few years.  Last night, he proved he's still quite pretty when he wants to be.  He shaved, cut his hair normal again, and showed us all his adorable smile again.  Thank you Brad.

4. Lady Gaga should stick to singing.  Granted...I have never once seen American Horror Story, and I have no desire to, BUT she just seems like music is more her thing.  I'm almost waiting for her to "come out" as a man.  She's a good singer, but also sort of looks like a man who's trying to be a woman.  Just sayin'

5.  Thank you, Kate Hudson, for showing us women that it doesn't matter how many children you have birthed (she's had 2), you can and should still be able to have abs like yours.  Oh, that's right...we aren't all millionaires who have personal chefs, personal trainers, and surgeons at the push of a button.  I'm not jealous though.  If I had abs like that, I would show them off too.

6.  Why does Mel Gibson remind me of an Oompah Loompa?  Why is he orange?  It's not the picture either, he really did look like a pumpkin for some strange reason.  He also looked pissed and like he was about to throw a punch in Ricky's face.  It made for good entertainment.

In closing, the GG's this year made me want a few things:

1.  I need to see "The Revenant"
2.  I also want to see "The Martian"
3.  I love Jennifer Lawrence's style.  I wish I had it.
4. I wish I could give Amy Schumer more confidence. I'm not a therapist but I bet she makes so many jokes because she's actually pretty insecure about herself.
5. Leo and Kate need to do another movie together.  They just fit.  Long live Jack and Rose.

Since 1924

You know I like old things. I love the history behind old and aging things and places. 92 years is old in my book.  That's how long Cain's Ballroom has been a staple to downtown Tulsa, and I had NEVER been there.  Until last night:)

Last night we braved the cold, wind, rain, and 12 snowflakes to visit the Cain's.  We saw a couple new up and comer country female singers who have the potential to become big.  We can look at each other and say, "Remember when we saw her at the Cain's and no one knew who she was?"  That's kind of cool.  Steven had the opportunity to see a little no name band like that when he was living down in Biloxi, MS.  That band is now known by most everyone in the United States as Three Doors Down.

Cain's is a pretty unique building from the solid wood rafters, to the lobby upstairs, and the ballroom floor. One thing I did not realize (I should have done some research before) is that because it is a ballroom (duh) there are no seats.  No chairs.  No where for you to just rest for a bit.  We arrived at 7.  We didn't leave till 11.  I wore wedge booties for cuteness not for comfort.  Do the math.  That was the ONLY thing about this visit to the Cain's that I did not enjoy.  Next time, I will throw on my comfy shoes and know that I will be standing for a good 3-5 hours.

We went on our date just as a couple but because we have a lot of friends we ended the night seeing about 4 couples that we knew.  We ended up having a double date with my hairdresser Marla and her hubby Josh.  That worked out awesome!

If you've never been to the Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, I would recommend stopping by for something.  It's really an amazing place and makes for a good and different date night.  Something that's been around for over 90 years has got to be good, right?  Get it on your calendars!  It's worth it.

Cousin Sleepover

Christmas break has come and gone.  I can't believe how fast 17 days can fly by.  The kids have had a blast and I am hoping they are not TOO tired to start off the week tomorrow.  Late nights and early mornings are Owen's normal routines.  Thankfully, Will will sleep in.  At least one of my children will do that when he is overtired.

Speaking of overtired...last week the boys had their cousin Nathan spend the night.  Nathan is 11 and lives in Tulsa. We really need to have him over more because the boys just love him and enjoy spending so much time with him.  We took Nathan for dessert at Dairy Queen and then the boys came home and played light saber battles and watched "Home Alone" for about the 5th time this month.  Nathan was a great boy, super respectful, and quiet (I like the quiet part).  Thankful that Nathan was able to show Owen a little special trick regarding his light saber's.  Owen never knew (and neither did we) that they attached at the ends to make one large light saber.  Oh yes, that made for an awesome night for these kids:)

Tomorrow starts school, schedules, and routines all over again.  I just paid for another half a year of school lunches, packed backpacks, set out uniforms, and cleaned nap mats. Half way to summer.  Half the school year gone.  Let's do this!  I'm halfway on the home stretch of summer.  You know how I feel about summer.  Those months are the chosen ones.  The best.  The ultimate.  And even though it's freezing outside...we are half way there.  I say it again, let's do this!
