Shine On and Off the Field

This boy of mine is a star.  He's a star in my eyes for many reasons but a major one for me is his attitude of working.  He has a great work ethic that was passed down from his Daddy, his Daddy before him, and his Pappy on my side too.  Lots of good hard working men on both sides of this family.  Will is just another one.  He works so hard to get and earn these A's.  Some subjects (like Math and Science) come very easily to him and he doesn't have to do much to get the A.  Other subjects (like Reading and Language Arts) come much harder for him and this little boy has to give it his all just to stay grade level.  You know what though?  He IS grade level and even if that's as high as he gets this year to see where he began the year makes it all worth it to me.  I am so proud of him for earning 3 straight A semesters during his first year of a private school where the work load is triple what he had in public school (not knocking public school here but just stating a simple fact).

One thing we allow Will to do if he keeps his grades up is to play sports.  This boy loves sports like no other.  He soaks this up to the extreme with whatever sport he is into for that season.  It could be football, basketball, or baseball (and don't forget the occasional round of golf with his dad) and he is ALL IN.  Plays it and practices it with every free moment he has.  My children very rarely watch TV because if they are not outside playing these sports they are inside practicing them.  Note:  my house has very few picture frames with glass (it's already been broken), my walls have holes in them, my knick knacks are mostly ruined, and we have a broken window frame in our dining room from a golf ball that flew through from one of Owen's good swings.  In otherwords...this house is lived in.  All the way a boy home and when we move I will be needing to do some major repairs for the new homeowners!

Last night started Will's first season playing baseball for the Lincoln Bulldogs.  He got to play 1st base which he's been wanting to play for several seasons now.  He did a great job defending that base and getting runners out.  His team walked away with their first victory last night with a score of 12-8.  Will scored 3 runs (he made it very clear to me this morning that he wanted that piece of information included in this blog post).

Way to go Will and way to shine on and off the field.  You make your parents very proud of you!

Talk to you all soon!  Enjoy the rest of the week:)

T stands for Twister

This last Wednesday started off like most other Wednesday's.  The boys woke up, got ready for school, I worked and somehow squeezed a run in the day since it was so warm and muggy.  Warm and muggy in the spring time in Oklahoma doesn't always equate to good things though.

All day the weather people had been warning us of evening storms.  All day they had said "strong winds and hail will be the main possibility.  doesn't look to be any tornadic activity."  Oops.  They were wrong.  Again.  Low and behold an F2 tornado was bearing down on downtown Tulsa and headed right towards the casino in Catoosa.  We only live 3 miles from this casino so it was into the underground basement shelter we headed.  We were super thankful that our friends, Sean and Kate, let us stay in their shelter with them!

Sadly this F2 tornado did do quite a bit of damage in the neighboring city of Sand Springs.  People lost their homes and businesses and even one person lost their lives.  Tornadoes are not to be messed with in Oklahoma or in any other state for that matter.  In our next home Steven and I build we WILL be building an underground tornado shelter to protect ourselves and any neighbors who need to seek shelter.

Thankfully, we haven't had another storm since this one on Wednesday.  It's just so crazy how fast they roll in.  One minute it is quiet and calm and then in a matter of seconds it was blowing and gusting 80-90 mph winds in our neighborhood.

Thankful we had protection and AGAIN seriously wish we could consider moving out of this state.  Tornadoes every spring and now earthquakes in every season.  Oklahoma is home and I doubt we will leave while boys are still in school but once college age hits for them we will begin pushing schools such as Univ of Florida and FSU.  Sounds good to me!!

End

The end of Spring Break brought something very special and near and dear to my heart.  No, it wasn't yet ANOTHER round of mini golf that I had to (endure) I mean play with my sons.  It wasn't the 30 minute wait just to get on hole 1.  It wasn't the ice cream truck who knows the absolute PERFECT time to drive through the hood blasting his crazy music (and of course, we had to get some because it's the end of their SB now).

Has anyone guessed it?  Does anyone know what happened and what occured over this SB that made me one very happy woman? If you know me at all, you probably know how much I despise Winter.  So, March 20th, was a very special day to me.  Welcome SPRING.  Welcome.  Welcome with open arms and big sloppy kisses and bear hugs.  I love you Spring.  I love you so much with your beautiful breezes, rains, and budding flowers and trees everywhere.  I love the life you bring back into our dead and cold and dreary world.  Welcome Spring.  I will love you until you bring us tornadoes and then I will hate you and long for Summer.  Summer I do love.  Better than even Spring.  But for now, Spring I adore you and thank you for coming!

He Wears Many Hats

He's a man of many talents I tell you.  He loves to entertain.  He loves to make people laugh.  He loves to laugh at himself.  He's the child who enjoys dressing up, who likes to play with super hero's and who wants to be the life of the party.  He is so very opposite his brother sometimes I am even amazed that they are related:)  He can't eat Mexican without putting on the sambrero. He can't go to the firehouse without demanding to wear the gear and have me snap a picture.  He loves Halloween (for the dress up reason and not for the candy reason).  I know that is a shocker to most mom's.  He will wear any set of sunglasses, any set of real glasses, and anyone's wig he wants to borrow from a random stranger at a bowling alley.  Yes, this happened.  Please read my blog about it that I posted a few months ago.

This child is the life of the party and the life of this household.  He makes me crazy on a daily basis but he also makes me laugh more than anyone I know.  He has a huge heart and is very tender when he needs to be.  He's not very brave for scary things but will try almost anything if Steven or I are with him.  He's a joy and I am so proud to call him my Owen Michael Kueny:)

Middle

In the middle of all the craziness of Home and Garden Show and Spring Break we took some time out to hire a babysitter and head out to celebrate the birthday of our friend, Amanda.  I have a lot of friends named Amanda now that I think of it.  Just 6 off the top of my head that I can rattle off.  I digress....

We went to the Bruhouse.  This place is just a small locally owned restaurant off of Main St in Broken Arrow.  I love going to places like this to support the local economy and bring back some life into smaller towns.  Steven knows the owner (of course) of this place and so he has brought many new people to the Bruhouse.  They have free pool and a shuffleboard also (just FYI).  We've never gone on a weekend but I've heard rumors they have live music also.

We had a great time getting out of the house for a few hours and enjoying many great laughs throughout the evening with Amanda and CJ.  Hopefully we will have many more dates to come!

Talk to you all soon!

Beginning

The beginning of SB has been spent with the boys entertaining themselves pretty well.  I am super thankful they can do this since the Home and Garden Show brought our business about 100 people I have been calling, talking to, setting appointments for designs, and following up on all appointments.  Let me just clarify...I've been working full time.  I've had the boys home 24/7 without help because Steven is putting in 60+ hours right now a week.  I'm tired.  I'm also beyond grateful that I don't have to do this all the time.  I love owning our own business but the months of February-June are pretty rough.  It's not easy and anyone that says owning your own business is so easy because you get to "set your own schedule" has never really owned their own business.  There.  I'm done and off my soapbox.

Our schedule this beginning of SB has been for me to work all morning and half the afternoon.  I try to finish up early so I can take the boys to do some fun activities.  Afterall, it is Spring Break for them:)  This week has been filled with a lot of swimming.  I added them to my plan at my gym and after I work out me and the boys have been doing some massive swimming this week.  No wonder kids are so skinny.  Swimming is not for the faint of heart. It must burn some massive calories!

Check out Owen's expression in the bottom picture.  Classic boys being boys and chasing around each other even in water.  Like I said, I'm thankful they entertain each other:)  Talk to you soon!

I'm Really Behind

Okay, so Spring Break has crept up on me and I am very behind on blogging.  I apologize to my faithful readers.  Most of you probably haven't even realized that its been a couple weeks since you read about the latest Kueny adventures.  I realize we are not that important to most people:)

The boys finished up their basketball seasons in late February.  Owen enjoyed the season "a little bit" and Will loved every single moment of it.  Will's team (coached by Steven) ended the season 9-1.  The only game they lost was only by 1 basket.  Will and Steven still kick themselves over that.  Will has already moved onto the next sport, which is baseball, with practices already beginning twice a week.  Owen isn't doing baseball this season because he demands to play coach pitch and refuses to play with "the babies" in TBall.  Since, I can't find 5 year old coach pitch anywhere he is sitting this season out.  Fine by me.  One kid in sports at a time is much easier anyways.

I hope everyone has had a good Spring Break so far and enjoyed the time off with your kids (hopefully).  We had the Home and Garden Show last weekend so each year SB means to the Kueny household...Go NOWHERE and work full time for the BUSIEST 2 weeks of the whole year in our world.  Oh well, at least it's been pretty weather and the boys have been able to play.  Talk to you all soon!

I Need Warmth!

This weekend Steven was gone to Colorado for a ski trip with some friends.  Don't get me wrong..I love trips away with my husband and weekends off from kid duty but I had just come from 18 inches of snow in Kentucky and didn't feel like going to a 12,000 ft elevation mountain range with 1-2 FEET of snow expected for the weekend.  I wanted to stay in my nice warm house and play outside with my boys.

Instead...I got this.  Snow.  Great.  Just great. It snowed Friday night, all day Saturday, and we even had some rain/sleet to complete the weekend on Sunday.  So much for getting away from the snow.  Well, I tried to make the most of it.  Saturday we did pretty much nothing but wait for the snow to stop falling.  Will had come home from school with a recipe he was dying to try out.  Thankfully, we had all the ingredients at home since I was in no way going to venture out to Walmart.  Chango Bars were on the agenda and he loved every minute of it!

Saturday was pretty much a day filled with "do whatever you want in this house just don't break anything.  oh, and eat whatever you want to."  It was about 12:30 and I hadn't really mentioned lunch yet.  I was going to make them something but we had all been snacking all day so I just didn't really think about it.  Will walks into the kitchen and proudly says, "Mom, I'm making lunch now."  He did it all himself and never asked for my help with anything.  That's a lunch I could get used to.  Chef Will toasted his own bread with jam, microwaved some chicken nuggets and then threw some pretzels in for good measure.  He ate it all up and even had seconds on the toast and jam.  This is snow food at its finest.  Just eat what we have:)

I am FOR SURE ready for some warmer weather.  This weather just has me slumbered up inside my own home wearing a beanie, hoodie, layers, gloves, and house shoes at all times.  Have I mentioned that our fireplace hasn't been turned off for 3 days?  Can't wait to get this months ONG bill.....Bring on SUMMER!!!
